Come for whatever you can, but please don't show up to the dinner if you haven't given an RSVP. I will bring you down. Not really, but that's just not cool.

ATTENTION UCO, MEIJER MADNESS NEEDS YOU!

From Ben Gilbert and company: This Friday night from 9pm-1am Meijer Madness is occuring for all University of Michigan students at the Ann Arbor/Saline Meijer. This is a huge event for all the students living in the dorms and it is a time where a ton of the freshmen on campus are still meeting new people and are very open to new relationships. We as UCO are organizing to go out and meet new students and talk with/invite them to further UCO events, such as the opening party. We need all the help we can get!

One of the most visible signs that U of M students are losing their minds diverse. There's a group out there for every cause, creed, and (nut)case. But we'll be out there too (we're not weird, we're different). This is a great opportunity to talk to freshmen and other curious types, as well as get a bunch of free stuff from other groups. It's NOT a great opportunity to try to get to class on time.

We'll have signup info at the prayer meeting, but you can also email Rachel (rachel.benjam@gmail.com) to sign up or ask questions.

Our first Bible Study of the year!!! Yay!

Join us for a time of worship with song and praise, followed by an invigorating episode through a part of the Sacred Word, lead by our beloved Servant of the Word, Dr. Dan Keating (see staff page).

Location: University Reformed Church (the toaster-shaped building on Huron, across the street from the Power Center and Rackham).

Bring a Bible or bring a friend! See ya there! :-D

Start: 8:00 pm
End: 9:30 pm

**Note: the Night-whiffleball thing is put on hold for now.  And we moved the day to Wednesday**

So we’re going to have a guy’s night in the dorms.  We’ll play some cards, and hopefully watch a classic arm-wrestling movie, like Over the Top with Sylvester Stallone.  To give you a flavor, here’s one of the quotes from it:  “I drive truck, break arms, and arm wrestle. It's what I love to do, it's what I do best.”  So yeah – look forward to that. Space is limited, but try to bring somebody if you’re coming.  Email John Hughes if you have questions about it (the night, not the movie).

Come discover the depth, breadth, and height of the love of God! If you've ever wondered if there's more to being a Christian than old ladies at Church, or asked yourself what it means to 'live in the power of the Holy Spirit', then this course can help you. You can go deeper with God.

The Life in the Spirit Seminar is an important part of UCO life. Even if you're already a Christian, you will benefit from going through the course - there's always more of God to discover!

We'll have a meal at 6:00, followed by a short talk and a testimony, with some small discussion groups afterward.

Eph 6:2 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

To properly prepare ourselves for the spiritual battle before us, we (the guys Men of UCO) will engage in a physical battle of epic proportions, involving darkness (metaphor?), backwoods, tomatoes, and a mild level of pain and physical exertion.

We'll meet up at 716 Catherine St, and head down to the battleground (west of Ann Arbor) to meet up with some other guys from UCO in Lansing. Then, capture the flag meets a half-ripened tomato to the face. TomatoWar07.

End: 09/29/2007 - 11:00

The ladies of UCO will be meeting up for an 'in-tents' camping trip in the backwoods of Charity Birk's homestead. No doubt it will be a great opportunity to leave the dorm-room/city environment for some good outdoors time.

Bring your sleeping bag, pillow, and flashlight. RSVP to charity Birk by Wednesday, Sept 26th.

Because there are few things better than to spend a Friday night in the middle of a corn field...

Meet at 716 Catherine St. at 8pm for rides to the corn field. Bring $5 to cover your admission and join your team as you try to find your way out and back to Ann Arbor. We'll meet back at the girls' house at 812 Kingsley for donuts, cider, and hanging out!!!

Start: 5:00 pm

Another tradition we have in UCO is the Lord's Day Celebration. We'll have a few UCO-wide Lord's Days each term, hosted by various UCO alumni. This first one will be hosted by the Ehingers. If you have the opportunity to go, I highly recommend it. Girls - the kids are among the cutest I've ever met. Guys - the food is unbelievable.

Please RSVP to Mary at a week in advance if you're interested in coming.

This is the new and improved STEAK, fellas. RIBS are better for a few reasons:

  1. you have to tear them apart.
  2. you use your hands.
  3. you get dirty.
  4. they're ribs.
So invite absolutely anyone.
As long as they are a guy. And hungry.

An annual tradition - an extended time to seek the Lord and hold vigil.  Yes, it's a tad longer, but it has always been a blessed time in the past, and I'm sure this year will be no exception.

"I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth." (Isaiah 62:6-7)

DRESS: Formal! (guys - shirt and tie)

HOW MUCH: Free

WHAT DO I BRING: An awful wrapped gift (for the White Elephant part), and maybe some dancing shoes.

IS ANYONE INVITED?: Yes. Totally.

Food Gatherers is a local organization that collects food donations from the community and distributes them to the needy. We'll be helping them sort and stock the donations at their warehouse. This will be a good chance to serve the poor in our local community.  Please contact Alex (akilpat@umich.edu) if you can volunteer and also if you can provide ride.

Not too many details yet, but Zach Mabee is heading up a series which will explore some basic objections to Christianity in greater detail than we explored last term.  We'll probably have a guest speaker come in.

So basically one Friday a month, some of us will get together for some Pizza and apologetics.. Sounds tasty, eh?

As you may have heard through the grapevine, UCO is one of the sponsor groups for this ’40-days of prayer’ event, and we want to have at least one night where we encourage our folks to go and take hour-long (or longer!) slots to fill out the night: that night will be Feb 12th.

We can do this, you guys.  We’ve already got a number of the harder slots filled up (2am-5am)– but we still need more people to fill the following spots11-12, 12-1, 1-2, 6-7, 7-8

Continuing in the age-old, time-honored tradition of the men cookin’ up some seriously tasty food for the women, Scott and Chris are heading up this year’s Valentine’s Day “BreakFeast”©. Ladies, this is a great way for the guys to honor you (also a great way to get tasty free food), so don’t miss it!  You don’t have to stay for all 3 hours – just come when you can – there will be food!  Guys, if you want to help out, (either by baking something or helping set up, or putting together a serenade) let Scott (CoupDeRepartee@gmail.com) or Chris (cdirizzl@umich.edu) know.

For the first time in UCO history, the Dorm Troopers and UCO are doing a Lord’s Day Celebration together!  Dreams will be born, legends will be made, rowdy post-Lord’s-day activities will no doubt follow.  Bring $3 or so for food.  Dress is casual.  If you gave up meat for lent, bring a vegetarian option to eat.

If you know what’s good for you want to attend, please RSVP to Chris (cdirizzl@umich.edu, 734-657-2587) by Thursday.

If you prayed to receive more freedom in worship or spiritual gifts at our prayer ministry night, here’s a great opportunity to begin to exercise that freedom! After worship, John Keating will be speaking to us to wrap up our series on worship.  He is a very anointed and powerful speaker and it will no doubt be inspiring to hear what he has to say.

This week we'll have our regular time of worship and seeking the Lord, followed by a short talk by me (John Hughes), then we're planning on having a time to honor one another.  Honoring times are pretty counter-cultural and I don't think many of us are used to them, but I think it's something that really helps build a Christ-centered environment, and it breaks through the negativity in our culture.  So if you've got someone you've been looking to honor, this would be a great time to do so.
