End: 4:00 pm

One of the most visible signs that U of M students are losing their minds diverse. There's a group out there for every cause, creed, and (nut)case. But we'll be out there too (we're not weird, we're different). This is a great opportunity to talk to freshmen and other curious types, as well as get a bunch of free stuff from other groups. It's NOT a great opportunity to try to get to class on time.

We'll have signup info at the prayer meeting, but you can also email Rachel (rachel.benjam@gmail.com) to sign up or ask questions.

09 / 7

This is the stuff of dreams.  Always a highlight. Always ridiculous. Bring anyone you've ever thought about talking to.

Our first Bible Study of the year!!! Yay!

Join us for a time of worship with song and praise, followed by an invigorating episode through a part of the Sacred Word, lead by our beloved Servant of the Word, Dr. Dan Keating (see staff page).

Location: University Reformed Church (the toaster-shaped building on Huron, across the street from the Power Center and Rackham).

Bring a Bible or bring a friend! See ya there! :-D

09 / 12
Start: 8:00 pm
End: 9:30 pm

**Note: the Night-whiffleball thing is put on hold for now.  And we moved the day to Wednesday**

So we’re going to have a guy’s night in the dorms.  We’ll play some cards, and hopefully watch a classic arm-wrestling movie, like Over the Top with Sylvester Stallone.  To give you a flavor, here’s one of the quotes from it:  “I drive truck, break arms, and arm wrestle. It's what I love to do, it's what I do best.”  So yeah – look forward to that. Space is limited, but try to bring somebody if you’re coming.  Email John Hughes if you have questions about it (the night, not the movie).

Come discover the depth, breadth, and height of the love of God! If you've ever wondered if there's more to being a Christian than old ladies at Church, or asked yourself what it means to 'live in the power of the Holy Spirit', then this course can help you. You can go deeper with God.

The Life in the Spirit Seminar is an important part of UCO life. Even if you're already a Christian, you will benefit from going through the course - there's always more of God to discover!

We'll have a meal at 6:00, followed by a short talk and a testimony, with some small discussion groups afterward.

Eph 6:2 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

To properly prepare ourselves for the spiritual battle before us, we (the guys Men of UCO) will engage in a physical battle of epic proportions, involving darkness (metaphor?), backwoods, tomatoes, and a mild level of pain and physical exertion.

We'll meet up at 716 Catherine St, and head down to the battleground (west of Ann Arbor) to meet up with some other guys from UCO in Lansing. Then, capture the flag meets a half-ripened tomato to the face. TomatoWar07.

Start: 8:00 pm
Start: 09/28/2007 - 20:00
End: 09/29/2007 - 11:00

The ladies of UCO will be meeting up for an 'in-tents' camping trip in the backwoods of Charity Birk's homestead. No doubt it will be a great opportunity to leave the dorm-room/city environment for some good outdoors time.

Bring your sleeping bag, pillow, and flashlight. RSVP to charity Birk by Wednesday, Sept 26th.

Because there are few things better than to spend a Friday night in the middle of a corn field...

Meet at 716 Catherine St. at 8pm for rides to the corn field. Bring $5 to cover your admission and join your team as you try to find your way out and back to Ann Arbor. We'll meet back at the girls' house at 812 Kingsley for donuts, cider, and hanging out!!!

Another tradition we have in UCO is the Lord's Day Celebration. We'll have a few UCO-wide Lord's Days each term, hosted by various UCO alumni. This first one will be hosted by the Ehingers. If you have the opportunity to go, I highly recommend it. Girls - the kids are among the cutest I've ever met. Guys - the food is unbelievable.

Please RSVP to Mary at a week in advance if you're interested in coming.

This is the new and improved STEAK, fellas. RIBS are better for a few reasons:

  1. you have to tear them apart.
  2. you use your hands.
  3. you get dirty.
  4. they're ribs.
So invite absolutely anyone.
As long as they are a guy. And hungry.

An annual tradition - an extended time to seek the Lord and hold vigil.  Yes, it's a tad longer, but it has always been a blessed time in the past, and I'm sure this year will be no exception.

"I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth." (Isaiah 62:6-7)

We can do this, you guys.  We’ve already got a number of the harder slots filled up (2am-5am)– but we still need more people to fill the following spots11-12, 12-1, 1-2, 6-7, 7-8

If you prayed to receive more freedom in worship or spiritual gifts at our prayer ministry night, here’s a great opportunity to begin to exercise that freedom! After worship, John Keating will be speaking to us to wrap up our series on worship.  He is a very anointed and powerful speaker and it will no doubt be inspiring to hear what he has to say.

This week we'll have our regular time of worship and seeking the Lord, followed by a short talk by me (John Hughes), then we're planning on having a time to honor one another.  Honoring times are pretty counter-cultural and I don't think many of us are used to them, but I think it's something that really helps build a Christ-centered environment, and it breaks through the negativity in our culture.  So if you've got someone you've been looking to honor, this would be a great time to do so.

We’ll have a 1-hr service together starting at 11pm, in which we worship, go through some different meditations on Psalms of lament and the messianic Psalms, and carry a cross to different points in the Diag.  Then starting at midnight, there will be one-hour shifts (up until 8am) for people to take to pray (or stay all night if they please!).  Yes, I realize it’ll probably be pretty cold, but we’ll have a few folks coming out with hot-chocolate throughout the night.

This is a service put on by our brothers and sisters with Campus Chapel - UCO is co-sponsoring the event with some other groups, so it'd be great if we can get some folks out there. It should be a great service - Mark Roeda, a pastor with Campus Chapel, told me this:

"it starts with a reading of the death of Christ in John 19 and the blood and water (thus the title of the service) that pours from his side. The rest of the service explores this symbolism using Hebrews 9:11-28 with readings, songs, images, and silence. You could call it an emergent/alt.worship styled service, but "emergent" has come to be synonymous with "heretical" in some circles. It's orthodox. I simply mean by that it compiles material drawn from a range of traditions and media."

The Williamsons are opening their house for a UCO Seder, for the second year in a row - last year was a huge success, even though the horse-radish was ridiculously potent.  For those who have never done a Seder before, it is an adapted version of the typical Jewish Passover feast.

We will start at 5:30pm, and be finished by 7:30ish for those who have other commitments that night.  But if you are free to stay, then you are most welcome to hang out.  Play pool, foosball, watch a movie, spend time with the horses, etc.

Back by popular demand, Sam Williamson is going to come in to continue his Friday series covering various objections to Christianity.

This time, the presentation/discussion has to do with Religion, Exclusivity and Peace.  Critics of all religions (and Christianity in particular) state that religions tend to lead to war, strife, oppression, violence and marginalization.  Claims that ‘I have the truth’ results in religious people looking down on others as inferior, so why can’t we just agree that all religions are equally valid?

We will discuss the various flavors of this position, problems related to them, and what Jesus has to say about them.

One of my favorite people in the world (Jerry Munk) is coming in to speak on one of my favorite things (Ecumenism).  So I’m gonna have a good time this Tuesday.  And you can too!  Ecumenism is at the heart of what we’re doing in UCO, and it’s important for us to understand it well.  Jerry is an Orthodox Christian from Lansing, and he’s got a lot of experience as well as a great heart for this work.  Let’s be lifting up this time in prayer – that the

Once a term or so we get together for worship as the Michiganian UCOs.  Last time they came down to Ann Arbor, so this time we’re meeting in Lansing.  This is a great opportunity to worship with like-minded people, rekindle old friendships and make new ones.  An overall awesome time…  And! For the first time ever, a group of students from Hillsdale (where a new UCO is coming together) will be joining us – to glorify God with us “with one heart and mouth”.   If you need a ride, let me (John - jdhughes84@gmail.com) know.  If you can drive others, let me know.  We will make sure you get gas money.  I encourage you all to go!
